The Museum was built with the support of the Volkswagen Foundation and officially inaugurated on August 25, 1984. It is located next to the Sechín archaeological zone. Through a chronological sequence, the cultural development of the Casma Valley is narrated, represented by various cultural assets recovered in the archaeological research projects carried out in Cerro Sechín, Sechín Bajo, Sechín Alto, Las Aldas, Pampa Colorada and Moxeque.

 

Next to the Temple of Sechin, in Ancash, the Casma Regional Museum, Max Uhle, was built by the Sechín Project of the Catholic University of Peru and was inaugurated in 1984. This site offers the visitor a variety of information about the main pre-Hispanic cultures that They lived in this part of the region.

This museum has rooms that expose the development of the culture of that place from very remote times. Inside is the Temple of Sechín, which has a circuit that shows all its splendor.

 

In the Exhibition Room you can see in an orderly manner archaeological material from the Sechín excavations, as well as scale models, photographs, burials from the Chavín, Chimú, Wari culture, adobes of different shapes and ages, ceramics from the Casma Valley and a Cultural Chronological Chart.

 

The most notable thing is the full-scale model of the interior of Cerro Sechín, as well as the replicas of the clay masks found in Mojeque by Julio C. Tello.

 

The museum was designed with the purpose of being an important Research Center for the Archaeological Heritage of Ancash.

 

Office Hours

The visit to the museum, as well as to the Sechín Temple, is from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon.

 

How to get?

The museum is located in the district and province of Casma, department of Ancash, approximately 5 km. from the city of Casma. From the Plaza de Armas of Huaraz it will take you to get there by car in approximately 3 hours. Google Maps shows you the way.
