Day 01: Cusco - Soraypampa - Salkantay Mountain - Wayracmachay

Wake up very early in the morning for the driving until Mollepata in about 3hours, there we can stop for a moment to breakfast or other some necessities you have. Continue the road and arrive to Soraypampa where wil be the first checkpoint  and meet the agency staff to start our hike. Begining the excursion we have to up for the trail when we'll arrive to the highest point  called Apacheta path (4590 m). 

The rest of the trek is easier due to the fact that we'll descend to Wayracmachay (2890 m) our first campsite.

Day 02: Wayracmachay - Luscamayo - La Playa
Detail

Starting the day with a good breakfast and continue the hike through the cloud forest while the views of landscapes and mountains are incredibles but also will be possible see the variety of animlas and orchids around the pass of Lluscamayo River. Then hiking for 5hours we can arrive to the Lluscamayo settlement and take our lunch of the day.

Again hiking about 3hours for see a wonder waterfall which we might take the panoramic photos. The amazing views will continue passing the waterfall observed, the valleys, mountains and variety of birds especially the well known "Gallito de las Rocas" is one of the most majestic animals we can see along the excursion. A the end we'll be arriving to our campsite of the day for tomorrow see the archaeological ruins from Llactapata.

 

Day 03: La Playa - Llactapata Ruins - Puente Ruins

In this day we have to be ready and go walking to Llactapata ruins, before the ruins we'll be passing among coffee and coca plantations, more kind of orchids and a amazing view from the rainforest where then we can estimate the fantastic and wonder ruins from Llactapata.

Now we continue to the "Hidroelectrica" descending approximately in one hour and complete the hike until Aguas calientes where will be our lunch. Ending up the tour we'll going to our accomodation where pass the night in Aguas Calientes town. No doubt will be a great day because have to mix the Salkantay trekking with Inca Trail.

Day 04: Puente Ruins - Km 104 (Inca Trail) - WiƱaywayna - Aguas Calientes Town

Begining on the sunrise and start walking with our team to Km 104 (Inca Trail checkpoinrt). We have to hike between 2-3hours to reach the archaeological site from Chachabamba where a lunch will be waiting us.

Before to reach Wiñaywayna we have the hapiness to see a beatiful waterfall where we'll be passing through the cloud forest for then arrive to the Sun Gate, the last archaeological site in our tour before visit Machu Picchu the lost citadel. The Sun Gate is in other words the pass to the citadel with a panoramic view from the mountain.

This day we don't hike to Machu Picchu yet, because the better is at final day and for the moment we'll have to descend until Aguas Calientes where will sleep after a good dinner.

Day 05: Hiking to Machu Picchu - Cusco

Wake up too early and be ready for the magnificent day, a hike of 2hours to the city of Machu Picchu for purchase some interesting articles of the area and then have a guided tour from the city. Is a good alternative hiking to Huayna Picchu mountain because from there you can take the most fantastic pictures of Machu Picchu.

At final of the day a train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy will be waiting us, then a bus until Cusco will be the course. No doubt this excursion will be the most interesting of all we can do. The landscaps and mountains are the best of the excursion while passing among varied weathers on the road.

Accomodation

Camping (3 Nights) and Hotel in Machu Picchu (1 Night)

Our tents are of the brand Eureka Mountain double  designated for 4 seasons. We provide with 3 person capacity tents; however, just 2 trek participants use it! In this way, we provide you more space and comfort. In case of a single traveller, we provide with a 2 person capacity tent.

 

Hotel in Machu Picchu: with private bathroom and hot water (Single, Double or matrimonial room)

 

Sleeping Mattress - Thermarest mattress

We provide with inflatable mattresses of the brand Therm-A-Rest. The mattresses are 3 cm heigh that will ensure you a sufficient isolation from the cold earth!

This inflatable mattress for more comfort to sleep in the trail 

 

Sleeping Bag

We use only feather sleeping bags that are suitable up to minus 16°C. This means you do not need to be worry about cold as temperature at night at each trek reaches just up to 0°C (maximum -5°C)!!

Included fee to the Salkantay MountainInca Trail and Machu Picchu.

 

A professional Cook + Meals

4x breakfast, 4x lunch, 4x dinner, 3x afternoon´s hot beverages and Snack every morning

The Salkantay Trek Machu chefs cook delicious meals that many previous trekkers have raved about. If you are a vegetarian or have any restrictions, our chef will prepare special food, please advise us in advance. A vegetarian meal option is for NO extra cost. Food is typically served and buffet.

 

Water

Excluding the first 4 hours of the trek when you need to bring your own, Salkantay Trek Machu will supply all the water needed. This water will be boiled, filtered and then cooled, before distributing. You must supply your own water bottles or camel back. We recommend carrying about 3L worth. We will refill our waters at each meal.

 

Muleteer + Horses

Our horses will carry the all camping equipement for your trek and 7 kg for your personal beloging + Sleeping bag; 

Muleteer is responsible to take the horses;

Salkantay Trek Machu DOES NOT permit this exploitation!! We guarantee that our horses carry only an amount given by the Peruvian law!!

 

Tourist Train

From Machu Picchu to Ollantaytambo, there are two companies train (Incarail and Perurail),you can choose two time of your train return to Cusco

If you take the train return at 14:55, you will be in Cusco at 18:00

If you take the train return at 19:00, you will be in Cusco at 22:00

On the high season, it is very important let us know in advance, because it is very difficult find spaces available.

Machu Picchu Bus

A shuttle bus down from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes Town

 

Private Transportation

Early morning transfer by private bus to Challacancha - the initial point of the trek;

The train service is finishing in Ollantaytambo Train station, then our driver is waiting for you and he will take to Cusco;

 

First aid kit including emergency oxygen bottle

Our guide has received training in first aid from a physician. Your tour guide will always have a first-aid kit for basic medical problems (traveler’s diarrhea, cuts, scrapes, etc.) and oxygen.
